Some residents of D’Urban Street, Werk-en-Rust, were awakened from their sleep early yesterday morning, after two cars collided at D’Urban and John Streets, (opposite the Camp Street prison.) at approximately 3:00 hrs.
Joseph, the driver of one of the cars, HB 1089 (white 192 Toyota Carina), said that he was heading west along D’Urban Street to pick up his wife who was at the Stabroek Market area, when he saw the other car, PLL 2122, (Silver Gray 212 Toyota Carina) approaching D’Urban Street from the northern half of John Street. According to Joseph, he assumed that since he was on the major road, that driver would have observed the road rules and stop, but the driver proceeded into his path. “Before I could even mash brakes I done de in he side,” Joseph said.
As a result, both cars are badly damaged. One ended up in a nearby gutter.
When asked to relate what happened, the driver of PLL 2122 appeared to be intoxicated and could not give a proper explanation of how the accident occurred. However, no one sustained serious injuries except for a woman who was in the passenger side of PLL 2122, who escaped with minor cuts and bruises.
